Project Overview
Outdoor Photographer magazine has a wide range of photography taken outdoors and devoted to displaying natural elements such as landscapes, wildlife, plants, and close-ups of natural scenes and textures.
The macro photography issue centers around close-up photography in general with common macro subjects – flowers, bees, dragonflies, and so on.  Gary Wagner and Ken Rockwell are featured as guest contributors.

Design Elements and Tools
I used red to create a bold cover to set the design apart from the typical cluttered outdoor magazines.  I photographed an orchid to the theme of shapes.  The curves of the cover image echoed to the theme as well as added a sense of intimacy.  Macro photography is all about closeness and intimacy.  The magazine layout and typography were done in Adobe Illustrator with added photographic elements that were done in Adobe Photoshop.
